Higher seminar: What happens to learning design processes in the digital transformation to online teaching and learning (during Covid-19)?

Assistant professor Lillian Buus, VIA University College, research leader of the enivronment Learning & IT

I have an interest in Learning Design as a methodology for designing for digital mediated learning, and seen in the light of Covid-19 and the rapid digital transformation from traditional teaching to online teaching I have seen some interesting findings in a national research project on covid-19 and experiences with online teaching and learning. I would like to present some of these findings and relate them to the known facts on how to design for learning in general and from
a Learning Design perspective.

Brown Bag Seminar in Economics and Finance

Brown Bag Seminar in Economics and Finance presented by Mohsen Khezri from Bu-Ali Sina University

Title: The Role of R&D in the Effectiveness of Renewable Energy Determinants: A Spatial Econometric Analysis

Date: Monday, April 19
Time: 12:10-12:55

Zoom: https://ju-se.zoom.us/j/65965469113

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effects of renewable energy determinants on various renewable energy resources. The empirical results are based on data from 31 Asia-Pacific countries observed from 2000 to 2018. Different diagnostic tests indicate the existence of spatial effects in the renewable energy model. The spatial Durbin model with the time-period and spatial fixed effects was selected for analysis. Scrutinizing empirical studies suggest a lack of theoretical consensus on how renewable energy determinants work. By examining how R&D affects different renewable energy resources, this study attempts to fill the research gap. In addition, the R&D environment is an important factor in determining the effects of GDP and the development of financial markets and institutions. R&D enhancement reduces the impacts of market expansion on hydropower; however, such effects are incremental for solar, wind, bioenergy, and geothermal energy resources. In an environment with a low level of R&D, financial development has positive effects on hydropower generation and negative impacts on other renewable energy types. However, the expansion of R&D expands reverses such effects gradually. The empirical literature shows that different results are obtained for different countries at different levels of R&D. Furthermore, trade openness has been a positive factor in the development of all renewable energy types, while the positive effects of CO2 emissions are observed only on hydropower. The results also revealed the negative (positive) impacts of GDP per capita in neighboring countries with a higher (lower) level of R&D on the development of renewable energy of the origin country.

WebLearn: Polymer recycling - why a challenge?

Polymers are the marvelous invention of the last century. The way they have cast an impact on us and transformed our lives is unprecedented. Polymers are everywhere and life without them is unthinkable. However, they are produced in such huge quantities that they have overwhelmed the world’s ability to deal with the pollution they have already created. In the future, their production will further accelerate owing to their lightweight and barrier properties.
In this WebLearn webinar, we will focus on the recycling challenges of polymers in general and packaging-grade polymers in particular.
This webinar is specifically useful for dProcess engineers, environmentalists, End-user of plastics, salespeople, and everyone with an interest in polymer recycling. Everyone with interest in the topic are also welcomed.
The webinar, which is in English, is followed by 30 min group discussion and networking.

EUFBC Seminar - Valentino D Angelo

Welcome to join the 18th EuFBC seminar titled "Family Agents" presented by Valentino D’Angelo (Mario Daniele Amore and Alessandro Minichilli), from AIDAF-EY Chair in Strategic Management
in Family Business in memory of Alberto Falck, Bocconi University.

ABSTRACT – Several firms around the world are led by multiple CEOs. This observation has spurred a literature on the strategic implications of shared leadership. Our study investigates how co-CEOs affect corporate investment under different conditions of ownership and governance. We argue that, while family firms have more parsimonious investment policies than non-family firms, the presence of multiple CEOs raises overinvestment in family firms due to a potential divergence of personal agendas. Our analysis confirms that co-CEOs are conducive of excessive investment activities in family firms. Yet, we find that the positive effect of co-CEOs on family firms’ overinvestment is lower when the firm is subject to strong board monitoring, and higher when the co-CEOs belong to different family branches. Contrary to the view that family actors represent a homogeneous group with aligned interests and preferences, our study shows that the fragmentation of leadership among multiple actors may be costly for the family business.

Brown Bag Seminar in Economics and Finance

Brown Bag Seminar in Economics and Finance presented by Anton Hasselgren, Jönköping International Business School

Title: Is interest in climate change affected by perceived economic conditions?

Date: Monday, April 26
Time: 12:10-12:55

Zoom: https://ju-se.zoom.us/j/65965469113

Abstract
In this early working paper, we show that perceived economic conditions (sentiment) positively predicts the amount of Google searches on climate-change related topics. The effect is unrelated to business cycle fluctuations and abnormal weather conditions, and is not sensitive to the choice of Google search terms. The results help us understand the drivers of public interest and can inform policy makers and change management strategies.
